Living With A Kingdom Mindset

Welcome to the kingdom citizens blog!

A strong identity that is rooted in Christ gives us confidence to stand firm in our biblical values, even in the face of adverse challenges.

A kingdom reflects its king. If the king is righteous, the kingdom will be righteous. If the king is wicked, the kingdom will follow suit. Our identity must align with the nature of our King—holy, set apart, and walking in the authority He has given us. As members of the body of Christ, we are citizens of the Kingdom of God. This is the mindset we should have when our portrayal of that Kingdom is witnessed by citizens and non-citizens alike.

Reject mediocrity! You were never meant to fit into the mold of this world. Jesus Christ is the embodiment of excellence. Attempting to imitate anything or anyone other than yourself in Christ will produce a second-rate quality of “less than” in all you do. A peculiar vessel will always wrestle with commonplace disappointment because we are designed by God to rule like Him, in excellence; not in the impoverished mindset of secular comparison.

As a Kingdom citizen, walk boldly in the name given to you by God, reflecting His light in all you do (Matthew 5:16). Think like a Kingdom citizen, not like an illegal alien, always uncertain, feeling out of place, and constantly looking over your shoulder. Stand boldly in your rights as a royal-priest, the ruler of the realm the Lord has designated you to oversee.

A citizen in the Kingdom of God lives with the reign of Christ in their heart.

Think Like A King

It is absolutely necessary to stand firm in your Kingdom identity so that when you are challenged (and you most certainly will be), you can overcome such adversities by recalling the promises of your Creator. You are who He says you are! Believe it or fail. God never fails and cannot lie (Numbers 23:19), so we should not dishonor the Lord by doubting His Word concerning our identity and ability to triumph in His strength and wisdom.

You must think like a king and not like a subject. Though you may be a servant, you are not a slave. A king maintains order and what he thinks to do. He delegates and it is so! When our thoughts align with God’s thoughts, our identity will bolster up in triumphant boldness! The influence we have will suffer if we do not properly (boldly and humbly) embrace our position of power and authority in the Kingdom of God.

A king is a leader. In wisdom, he exerts his authority. With wise counsel he reigns. Please meditate on this point, leaders naturally create cultures based on their passions. What are you passionate about? Is it the will of God, or the will of man? Without having an identity that is firmly planted in the Lord, you will abuse your authority and misinterpret your relevance.

An Insecure King Becomes A Lord of Chaos

Insecurity in a king is bad for everyone. Loyal citizens become mistreated subjects when a king's heart is no longer submitted and secured in the promises of God. This is how someone can end up entertaining inappropriate priorities, though they are committed to the right calling. David and Solomon were both kings who honored the Lord but by the end of their reign had allowed their flesh to dethrone the Lord’s commands in their heart.

Though they both repented, the kingdom suffered as a result of their folly. In hindsight, we can deconstruct what caused their mind to shift from meditations of God’s word to the considerations of their flesh. Hands are the visible part of the brain; what you do reveals what you are thinking. If your hands are busy doing God’s work, then it is difficult to entertain the distractions of senseless behaviors.

Understanding is the consequence of thinking. Be on your guard, thinking through your decisions, analyzing your choices. In wisdom, govern your appetite, recalling your reverence for God and His word. Once you understand your place and position, you will learn to frame your thoughts in a way that causes you to bear fruit with the works of your hands, and not chaos or rebellion.

As believers, we will face our fair share of suffering but the promise of glorification in Christ is worth it all.
To live with a Kingdom mindset, is to take on the mind of Christ.

The Mind of Christ is A revelatory Light

As a king you must be diligently aware of the influences and distractions that dare infiltrate the throne room of your mind. Beware of the Jezebels attempting to Ahab your reign (I Kings 21:1-29). As one dedicated to their royal-priesthood, decline every desire to be average; be peculiar! Mediocrity is not a safe place. Give yourself permission to remove yourself from the cookie cutter others attempt to frame you with. Be mindful of the ambassador Christ has called you to be.

Don’t aspire to treat your citizenship like those in the world. You belong to the Kingdom of God. To live with a Kingdom mindset, is to take on the mind of Christ. Jesus is the Word of God, which provides abundant life and revelation. The Word of God instructs us in all things, including how to reign against the kingdom of darkness. As a child of the light, do not fashion yourself to even think like a ruler or subject in the kingdom of darkness. Reign in the light of the Lord!

Scripture of Emphasis:

Ephesians 4:21-24 (NIV)

" 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
