Welcome to the kingdom citizens blog!
Our faithfulness to Christ causes us to flourish, benefiting the relationships we have with mankind as well. Likewise, our unfaithfulness to Christ naturally reaps unfavorable outcomes with God and mankind.
When we read the Bible carefully, the observation is that God is perfect but mankind is flawed. The Lord established a system of laws to govern us in our fallen state. These laws do not give us access to salvation but by God’s grace, they set boundaries that behave as restraints on our fleshly ways. Jesus Christ granted us salvation by way of His death and resurrection, after living the perfect life we could not. Jesus kept the whole of the law, correcting our perceived understanding of His commands along the way.

Divorce on "any Grounds"
One of the ways Jesus perfected our knowledge of His commands was by rebuking our liberal views of marriage and divorce. In Matthew 19:3-9, Jesus clarifies the guidelines of marriage and divorce. When the Pharisees questioned Jesus about the law of Moses concerning divorce, He brought up their hardness of heart and adulterous procedures.
Matthew 19:3-9
3 Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”
4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that he who created them in the beginning made them male and female, 5 and he also said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
7 “Why then,” they asked him, “did Moses command us to give divorce papers and to send her away?”
8 He told them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not like that from the beginning. 9 I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another commits adultery.”
The Lord intended for us to marry once, one man to one woman, remaining married until death. Unfaithfulness is the only exit permitted from the covenant-partakers God has joined together. In the beginning, under the power and perfection of the Lord, we had no need for divorce. After the fall of man, the disturbance of deception, dissension, and death led to divorce on “any grounds” (v. 3).
This is a reminder that we need Christ to correct our lens concerning the sanctity of marriage. If our most famous Biblical kings, prophets, judges, and stewards struggled with having a heart for God while wrestling with the desires of the flesh, we should be that much more careful in our walk of purity. Take note that many Biblical figures were held in high regards for their great faith in God, not their morality. Jesus set the record straight so that we could be great in our faith and our morality.
the Valid Marriage
God gave us the marriage-covenant then established the perimeters for marriage (Gen. 2:24, Deut. 17:17, Lev. 18:18). Marriage is the monogamous union between one man and one woman, under God’s covering. A valid marriage is deeper than vows and greater than oaths. A valid marriage is founded on the principles and power of All-Mighty God. There is no marriage without God as its architect and cornerstone.
Genesis 2:22-24
22 Then the Lord God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 And the man said:
This one, at last, is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called “woman,”for she was taken from man.
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.
God only intended for each man to have one wife and each wife to have only one man. God took “a” rib out of Adam and made “a” woman. This is singular, not pluralistic language. They become one flesh - made of two, none more. Engaging in a romantic partnership with more than one person will only lead to division and chaos. Likewise, serving any master other than Yahweh will only lead to damnation. You cannot serve two masters equally in love and devotion (Matthew 6:24).
Speaking of love and devotion, be wise in who you become one flesh with. 1 Corinthians 6:16-18 warns us against becoming one flesh with a prostitute. When we are united with the Lord, we are one with him in spirit, empowered by His wisdom to choose our spouse wisely and flee from sexual immorality. Sexual sin is a sin against our own bodies. Though the Bible says its better to marry than to burn with lust (1 Corinthians 7:9), we must enact this insight with God in mind, not our sexual frustrations. In short, don’t marry them just because they’re freaky. Have enough self-control to discover love in the Lord’s Body of beauties.

Scripture of Emphasis:
Hebrews 13:4 (NIV)
" 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
